Three Kings
Mixed Media
Three Kings is a triptych that celebrates the work of three electronic instrument pioneers: Tadao Kikumoto, Robert Moog, and Roger Linn. These inventors are amongst my heroes. Almost every piece of music produced in the last 25 years that includes either a synthesizer, a sample, or a drum machine, owes it's sound in no small way to the work of at least one, if not all three, of these pioneers. The artwork is a three panel multi-media piece, produced by:
- painting iconographic likenesses of each engineer on separate canvases
- attaching thousands of electronic parts to the canvases, reminiscent of the medieval mosaic style
- professionally lighting and photographing each panel
- drum scanning the resulting transparencies at maximum resolution
- digitally touching up each panel
- making gallery quality canvas prints
A massive print of this work is currently on display at halcyon the shop, 57 Pearl Street, in Dumbo/Brooklyn. It has been reviewed at MatrixSynth, and SonicState.
